Standards Based Curriculum
The Ohio Distance Electronic Learning Academy (OHDELA) provides a standards based curriculum in which clear learning goals and objectives are established at varying levels of difficulty. This is achieved through the development of scales aligned with the Common Core which challenges gifted students to perform at the advanced level. Clear criteria is established through the scales that include what students need to do to perform at the advanced level. This differentiation in curricula will be provided by the classroom teacher and enhanced by the gifted coordinator at OHDELA. Clear cut goals and objectives as defined through the classroom scales and carefully planned projects, formative, and summative assessments aligned to the scales and Common Core establish curricular rigor and relevance for gifted students.
Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a process in which students engage in a complex problem in which their thinking is guided through a driving question. Rigorous projects are intentionally planned, managed, and assessed providing students the opportunity to learn key academic content while using 21st century skills. OHDELA is proud to be offering this mode of learning for students. We feel that is is the perfect fit for gifted and high achieving students and that the increase in student engagement and achievement will be significant. You will enjoy the following Prezi which features some of the projects teachers have been engaging students in this year in the Freshmen Academy that was presented at the E-Tech Conference in Feburary of 2012. Included in the Prezi are tutorials on how to use various web 2.0 technology that you will find very helpful. The second link was the presentation from our professional development with teachers last summer.
